It
makes the teaching and learning process situation work well because the
situation is conducive and comfortable. The implementation of the research was
carried out from February to March 2020.
Ø Socio-economic status,
occupation/profession and earning trends of participants parents
I
found that large majority of households were living in joint family system and
the rest of them had nuclear and extended family. Most of the students resided
in "Packa" houses. Then, more than half of the students' parents
belonged to the high-income group and less than a quarter of the students,
belonged to the low-income group. A small number of parents of students were
landless farm workers, businessmen, government and private employees. The
socioeconomic background of the students was upper middle class. A considerable
number of the parents of the participants simply knew how to read and write.
His parents were progressive in education, but they were still far from higher
education, which is so important today to create a knowledge-based society. The
number of parents of the participants was dedicated to government services, as
well as private services, respectively. Parents have high expectations of their
children. They show considerable participation in their children's studies by
providing facilities for studies and encouraging them.
Literacy Rate of Jhelum:
The
literacy rate of Jhelum is among the highest in Pakistan. At 79%, it is only lower than that of
Islamabad and neighbouring Rawalpindi. Somewhat higher than the literacy in
Punjab province (58 percent). The literacy rate has remarkably increased from
38.9 percent in 1981.

Topic: The effect of
professionalism in the development of student’s learning attitude at secondary
level
1. Why did you select this specific sub-theme and topic?
Relate it to your experience / problem in your classroom/institution. (10
marks)
(Give the background and
rationale of the study)
Background of the Project:
Bain
& Ken (2004) find a close relationship between teachers’ professional and student’s
learning attitude. Attitude is defined as “a relational mental state that
directs the behaviors of an individual”. Different individuals have different
mental dispositions such as experiences, beliefs, desires, hopes, likes and
dislikes and intentions. Professionalism is performing of assigned work with
dedication and fervor. It contains attitude, beliefs and behaviors. Attitude is
the manifestation of professionalism. Professionals respect, care and coach
others with whom they work. Their behavior is collaborative and disciplined.
Teaching is a professional field. Teachers’ beliefs, experiences and
perceptions have deeper influence upon their teaching practices.
According to Borko (2004), there is a
great relationship of professional development between teachers and their
performances. Positive professional attitude of teacher have a significant
effects on the overall academic achievements of the students Professionalism is
important to educational psychology because they strongly affect the thinking
abilities and social thoughts of children. Professionalism of teachers greatly
influences the student’s performance as well as their own performance. It is
necessary for teachers to teach students with interest and also in such a way
that the attentions of the students are concentrated on them (Eggen &
Kauchak, 2001).
According
to my opinion teacher with positive professional attitude always performs the
assigned duties in right way. Professional attitude contains beliefs,
experiences, desires, hopes, likes, dislikes and intensions. The attitude of
teachers must be collaborative and disciplined. Teaching is a profession which
largely depends upon the attitude of a teacher. Effectiveness of teaching is
either possible when a teacher show positive attitude toward his/her
profession.
Reasons
of selecting this specific sub-theme and
topic
There are many reasons for selecting
this specific theme, sub-theme and topic. Since last year I observed
that in my class students faced behaviour problems. Keeping in mind the
problems of my students I aimed to explore the effect of professionalism in the development of student’s learning
attitude at secondary level. I studied that teachers with professionalism
enhance student’s attitudes and academic performance and also decrease their
stress level. Professionalism builds student’s self-confidence and self-worth
for better academic performance. Professional attitude is a significant predictor of good teaching
practices. So, I planned this research to explore
the impact of teacher’s professionalism
on student’s efficacy in Government High School Lehri, Tehsil Sohawa,
District Jhelum.
